SAINT PAPATYCHON | MOUNT ATHOS

Timothy was born in 1884 in Novyy Mikhalkovo, Russia. From childhood, he showed a rare inclination towards the spiritual life, despite his parents' initial hesitations due to his lively character. Before making the big decision of monasticism, he toured around 200 monasteries in his homeland, always choosing asceticism and asceticism, avoiding hospitality so as not to burden those around him.The search for absolute peace initially led him to Mount Sinai and the Holy Land, but the "secular spirit" of the time ultimately pushed him to Mount Athos. There, after passing through the Cell of Bourazeri, he took refuge in the steep Karoulia, where he practiced hard asceticism for 15 years, aiming for inner purification.Papa-Tikhon remained on Mount Athos for more than 60 years, constituting a "living ornament" of monasticism. His presence was decisive for the then young monk Paisios, who found in him the ultimate spiritual guide, learning from the simplicity and selflessness of the Russian elder.
